SpeedLab Mitsu Lancer Power Package

The latest Lancer from Mitsubishi is undoubtedly a hit. Having wandered off buyer's radar with the last Lancer, Mitsu's latest offering comes back with a vengance. 2 years after its introduction, the Lancer EX (also called the Lancer Fortis in other countries) continues to sell briskly, because well, admittedly, this is the only model lineup that offers the new 4B11 2.0L engine across all model variants.

To sweeten the deal even further, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines launched its Fantasic 4Some promo for the Adventure, Lancer, ASX and Galant by offering cash buyers with P90,000 worth of free items. That's right P90k large! And one of the packages offered is an upgraded performance package courtesy of us, SpeedLab =)

This is actually a first with a major manufacturer in the country, partnering with an aftermarket specialty shop to deliver more performance out of the box by way of bolt on modifications. We're flattered, make that very flattered. We have known for a long time and numerous happy customers can atest that our Lancer EX Power Package produces results that you can feel and appreciate. And to have MMPH recognize that is quite simply, amazing. Never has any manufacturer offered go fast goodies stright from the showroom floor!

Mitsubishi actually started the promo last September and today we had our first claimant, customer number 13 according to the voucher that you get when you buy a brand new Lancer.

That's P90,000 worth of performance upgrades which include: 1)SpeedLab K&N Intake  2)HotPipes Performance Header  3)Unichip Performance Fuel Computer  4)Circle Earth Grounding Kit  5)Runstop Cross Drilled & Slotted Rotors  6)HKS Hi Power Muffler

The whole package needs only 1 day to be installed and dyno tuned. Everything is a "bolt on" installation, meaning no opening up of the engine, computer box, etc etc and is completely reversible, so when years into the future should you decide to sell your beloved ride, evertyhing can be put back to original specs as if nothing happened. Well let's run down the individual components.

First up is the take out the stock air box and install a K&N high flow intake system. Much has been written online about the benefits of an open intake system but to summarize, a high flow lifetime washable K&N filter allows more air into the engine, and more air equals more power.

A set of HotPipes headers are next. I often equate a stock intake and exhaust with a clogged nose. You have two nostrils, since you have unclogged the first one with an intake, you have to unclog the second one. Air that the engine ingests has to go out. That's where larger and straighter pipes of the header come in.

Once both intake and exhaust are taken care off, its time to tune. Now tuning is a very broad meaning and can easily take up a whole article in itself. Suffice to say that, the Unichip is the team captain that makes both components (intake and exhaust) perform at their maximum. Gaining more power and improved fuel efficiency in the process.

When you have more go power, you will need more stopping power. This is where the Runstop Rotors come in. Being cross drilled and slotted allows them to operate cooler and more efficienctly, remember the brake disc is a heat transfer device, turning forward momentum into heat to stop. So the cooler the part performs, the better it performs.

While technically not part of the package per say, our claimant is alanganin about the huge gap between the fender and his cool "time attack" white and red Rota Fighter 10 wheels. So he opted to have a set of H&R lowering springs installed while he was at it. Admittedly, most people who install lowering springs do so for aesthetics, but there is a real performance benefit to lowering a car, and improved handling is the main one.

The H&R springs come complete with silicon spring sleeves to eliminate noise and that metallic sound when the springs fully compress, giving a quiet more controlled ride.

Well here's the finished engine bay, just the right amount of wow when you pop that hood and show it to your friends.

Admittedly most of the magic happens where its not easily seen, and we like it that way. You can have a perfect stock looking car that goes faster and zips through those overtaking manouvers.

And here's a side view shot. Just like Goldilocks, not too high, not too low, even with the slightly lower front lip. Just the right amount of street aggressiveness that will make you do a double take when this car passes by.

Now for some shameless self promotion, small and discreet stickers on the rear glass giving a hint of what's under the hood, and with every car we modify with our Power Package, the "Performance Tuned by SpeedLab" aluminum badge that proclaims it so, and no its not for sale hahaha. Customers only get this when they complete a SpeedLab Power Package, which you can check out here for your car

And more suprisingly I have had 3 people come back to the shop with their badges stolen!
