1.
Believe it or not, the stock air box system requires the air to make a
U turn at the left side of the engine to get into the intake manifold.
|

2.
This is the K&N cold air intake tube.
|

3.
All new Mazdas (and Toyotas and Fords) use this mass air flow sensor.
This needs to be in the intake air stream or else the car won't run.
|
|

4.
Our CAI comes with its own adapter flange and the sensor
bolts right in.
|

5.
The entire tube then attaches to the throttle body.
|

6.
The harness for the sensor is clipped back into place as is the vacuum
hose from the valve cover.

|
7.
This is the hard part, the fender liner and lower lining have to be
taken out to be able to install the filter head.
The advantage of course is constant
source of cooler air especially when at speed.
|

8.
Here's what the finished engine bay looks like after the install. The box with
the grooves beside the Mazda logo is the ECU, believe it or not.
|

9.
The Mazda 3 baselined at 86.4 whp stock. After the intake, we netted a
healthy 9whp at peak.
